Darcee Owl is a detective, but not a very good one. That is to say, he’s more likely  to stew in his own sorrow than to do actual detective work. Instead of solving crimes, Darcee spends a bulk of his time sitting in the same booth at Gena and Elmo’s diner, drinking coffee and mumbling to himself. He doesn’t like for anyone to invade his booth space, or to get too close to him (in both the physical and social sense). Newcomers to the diner are warned by Gena to let him be. His daily routine involves reading magazines and doing puzzles for mental stimulation, and he shows little interest in anything else. He’s by no means physically active. He DOES have detective skills, rusty skills, but skills nonetheless. He lacks the drive and the get-up-and-go that he once had, so most people see him as a lazy, bitter, and miserable has-been. Darcee still weirds out the normals though. He always looks so serious or angry, and his glance will send many-a-person backing away slowly.

Darcee is a long time associate of Gena, just from visiting the diner so often. She and the other diner regulars are the closest thing he has to real friends. Pilot, being the busybody that she is, has a knack for getting involved in other people’s lives. After first meeting Mistar as a criminal and finding out Darcee was a cop (sort of), she charismatically forced him to take her on a ride-along in hopes to catch up with the object of her current obsession. Not to mention, Darcee had "tall, dark, and handsome" mysterious lone wolf appeal, and she just HAD to get to know him. Darcee is very set in his ways once his ways are established, but he starts to loosen up around Pilot, who unfortunately is a lot more stubborn than he is. It's his passive "whatever" attitude that opened the doors for their friendship. He was shocked by the attention he was getting, being so used to being left alone, and yet he welcomed it as a pleasant change of pace. It's not that he hates people, but his reputation as a loner always kept people away. Because Darcee is not so open about his feelings, he shows his approval and general like for her in very subtle ways, but mainly by allowing her to sit and talk to him in his special booth. He doesn't think much of himself, however, so he distances himself from others and would rather be ignored, fading into the background.

The more Pilot hung out with Darcee, the more she got to know him. Her original intentions were soon put aside as she noticed that Darcee wasn't just a tough loner type. Law officials didn't take him too seriously, and she could tell something was bothering him. He seemed a little...defeated. And so, she made it her business to bring out his true potential and get him back on top. As for the reason why he’s at the bottom, well, that shall remain a mystery. It's something that happened before Pilot came to town, old news that no one talks about anymore. All she knows is that it has something to do with a man named Benton Fox.

It is some time after Pilot’s interference that Darcee goes back to work as a P.I. His office is located in a skyscraper downtown. His most prized possession is a mug that reads “World’s Greatest Dad”. Darcee to this day does not nor has he ever had any children. Why he has the mug is yet another mystery. Written on the door to Darcee’s office is his name incorrectly spelled as Darcy Oul. He takes a lot of odd cases, as one would expect from living in such an odd town. When Darcee is in the midst of a crime, he is known to say, “This mystery’s just about solved”, whether it really IS just about solved or not.

Darcee has a dry, monotone voice, but makes a lot of smart-aleck remarks. Even if he says something ridiculous, it sounds serious. He thinks aloud most of the time, and so he appears to be talking and murmuring to himself a lot. Not only does Darcee have good crime solving and problem solving skills, he has surprisingly quick reflexes. He also drives an old white police car, and he's not even a policeman.

Bonus Fact: Darcee's character evolved from another fox character concept that was intended to work or hang out at Elmo's Diner and so was Grady, which is why they are both brown-skinned and dressed as foxes. The eyes-in-the-that detective look was based on Secret Squirrel and "A Man Called Flintstone".
